First Farmers and Merchants Bank Responds to Target Data Security Breach
January 3, 2014 — Our Contact Center will have extended hours this weekend to assist you with debit card issues. Saturday hours will be from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday hours will be from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. You can reach the Contact Center by dialing (931) 388-3145 or (800) 882-8378.
Important Update: We have begun to see fraudulent purchase transactions come through on some of the affected cards. As of Saturday morning, December 28, 2013, we have blocked any further ATM or card purchase usage on your affected card. This measure is to protect your account from fraudulent activity. New cards are in the process of being sent out to replace the blocked cards. You should be receiving the replacement card later next week.
First Farmers and Merchants is aware of the Target credit and debit card security incident and is taking appropriate actions to help protect our customers. Security of our customers' information is always a top priority, and we have an extensive information security program that includes a dedicated team to detect and investigate suspicious activity. At this time, customers do not need to call First Farmers and Merchants Bank to learn whether they are impacted. If fraudulent activity is detected on your account, you will be contacted.
While First Farmers and Merchants Bank uses sophisticated fraud detection processes, we are most effective in fighting fraud when we work together with you. We recommend that you monitor your account activity on a regular basis. We actively monitor customers' account activity to help protect them from fraud. We offer our customers multiple layers of security protection against fraud, including text alerts to notify you of debit card activity.
How can I find out whether my card was affected?
First Farmers and Merchants Bank is investigating this recent breach at Target stores to determine which debit cards were affected. We actively monitor account activity through sophisticated software and processes to help protect you from fraud. However, we strongly encourage you to monitor your account(s) on mobile or myfirstfarmers.com and review your monthly statements carefully. Notify First Farmers immediately if you see any unauthorized activity by calling 800-882-8378.
Should I reset my PIN?
There is no indication that any card PIN information was compromised. While you are welcome to reset your PIN at any time, it is not necessary as a result of this incident.
Should I cancel my card?
There is no need to cancel your card. First Farmers and Merchants Bank has software and processes that monitor your accounts for suspicious activity, and if we determine your account is at risk, we will notify you and reissue your card. In the event that you discover an unauthorized purchase on your debit card, please notify us immediately so that we can investigate the purchase and reimburse you as appropriate.
Is First Farmers going to reissue my card?
First Farmers and Merchants Bank has a highly sophisticated fraud detection team that is constantly monitoring account activity, and if we determine your account is at risk, we will notify you and reissue your card(s).
Is my identity at risk?
Based on the information we have regarding this incident, it is unlikely that identity theft would occur because personal information required to steal your identity, such as your Social Security number, date of birth or address, was not part of the Target data compromise. However, it's always a good idea to check your credit report regularly to ensure information is correct.
