Meet Our Director of Nashville Community Banking

Headshot of Marcus Williams

By: Marcus D. Williams

We sat down with Marcus D. Williams, First Farmers’ Director of Nashville Community Banking, to learn more about his journey to the finance field, how he spends his time outside of work, and more.

Tell us more about your background and what led you to the banking industry.

Growing up, I didn’t have anyone to sit down with and help me set financial goals. I now realize how important that is, and I want to do my part to help those in our local communities.

I started as a teller and worked my way up to today. Ever since the early days of my career, I’ve been eager to learn everything I could about the industry and continued to draw inspiration from the idea of becoming a reliable financial resource for my friends and neighbors.

Explain your role with First Farmers and how you’re available to assist customers.

As Director of Nashville Community Banking, I work to form lasting connections and relationships within the local community. It comes down to knowing my customers and allowing them to trust me as both a person and their financial advisor.

I love getting out in the community, meeting new people, and learning more about their dreams and what’s important to them. From providing everyday financial services to helping people get loans for businesses and homes, I strive to do what I can to connect people with the right resources. I feel so honored and privileged to be in this position.

What is your favorite part of your job?

I believe everyone has something to teach you. My favorite part of my job is getting to know people and learning from them.

Outside of work, what are your favorite hobbies, and pastimes?

I love doing anything that allows me to be outdoors, whether fishing, hanging out on the farm, or simply enjoying nature.

Married? Kids? Pets?

I’ve been married to my wife, Katherine, for 22 years, and we have a 22-year-old-son, Brandon. Our family also has a German Shepherd named Nash and a Shih Tzu named Izzy.

What is your proudest accomplishment(s)?

When I worked in northwest Georgia, I found myself in an area where I didn’t know anybody. My employer expected me to go into the community and earn all the business I could. I realized if I was going to be successful, I needed to show people that I genuinely cared.

That understanding changed everything. I quickly began looking for ways to get more involved and form lasting connections with colleagues and neighbors. I joined the local chamber of commerce’s executive board and eventually worked my way up to serving as their Vice President.

Once people could see I had a genuine heart for the community, they trusted me, and new business came. This experience allowed me to gain so much more than banking skills—I had the chance to invest in peoples’ lives in a meaningful way. Forming connections within that community is still one of the most impressionable and fulfilling experiences of my life so far.

I’m also incredibly proud of my son and how my wife and I raised him to be a kind, wonderful person rooted in humility. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and love, and he knows that.

Is there any other advice you would like to share, or anything you would like people to know?

If there’s one thing I can’t emphasize enough, it’s that First Farmers is there for people to grow with them, wherever they find themselves in life. I am so fortunate to do that in this role, and I would love to get to know you and learn more about how I can help you achieve your financial dreams, whatever they may be!
